Currently in Boston — September 20, 2023: Lots of sunshine
Plus, a spectacular northern lights display this week.
The weather, currently.
Lots of sunshine
Temperatures Wednesday afternoon will reach the lower and middle 70s with lots of sunshine. This weather pattern will continue Thursday and Friday with cool mornings and warm afternoons. This is typical for the time of year. On Saturday we'll start to focus on a weather system with clouds and showers to the south. Depending on the track of the system will determine whether our weekend forecast includes more rain or the system stays south and keeps us dry. We won't know for another couple of days exactly what the track is but stay tuned as it could turn quite wet.
What you need to know, currently.
There was a spectacular display of northern lights — aurora borealis — on Tuesday, caused by a direct hit from particles sent Earthward from a solar explosion.
We’re in the middle of a multi-year peak of activity on the sun, so northern lights should be more common than in previous years. And the best time to see them is during the fall and winter, when the temperatures aren’t yet too cold, and the nights are getting nice and long.
One of my favorite websites, spaceweather.com, will keep you up-to-date on upcoming chances to see the aurora.
