Plus, independent climate journalism needs your support, now more than ever
The weather, currently.
Showers and storms will cool things off
Showers and storms will mark an end to the heat wave on Friday. Temperatures will fall to the 60s Thursday night and then stay in the 70s and 80s on Friday with the warmest air near the coast. Some storms could be severe Thursday night, but not as much on Friday.
The weekend features a cooler day Saturday with scattered showers and temperatures in the 70s. Most of Saturday is dry. Sunday features some sunny breaks and warmer and more humid air. Highs go back to the 80s
Next week brings a mix of clouds with a few more showers and warm and humid air. Temperatures will be back into the 80s. There could be one or two more days which reach 90 next week as the early summer heat resumes.
What you can do, currently.
A Media Matters analysis found that last year — the hottest calendar year on record — network coverage of climate actually declined in the US. What’s worse, just 12% of reports about climate change mentioned fossil fuels as the driving cause. The media still reported on extreme weather, but stopped short of making the climate connection.
Independent climate journalism like Currently is needed more than ever. And this year, with all of these weather warnings already underway, we’ll unfortunately have plenty of opportunities to do better.
