Currently in Boston — June 19, 2024: Heat Wave Day Two

Plus, the connections between climate justice and Black liberation.

The weather, currently.

Heat wave in progress

This will end up as a 3-day heat wave. There are two more days of 90° temperatures to go. When you add in the humidity, it will feel in the 95 to 105° range for much of the area on Wednesday and Thursday. If you're on the Cape and islands it will be cooler with temperatures staying in the 70s and lower 80s. Overnight lows will remain in the 70s for Boston, making it difficult for sleeping if you don't have air conditioning.

The temperature reached 90° at Boston’s Logan Airport on Tuesday afternoon for the first official day of the 3-day heat wave. Heat waves this time of the year are not unusual but they are definitely more common later in the summer.

On Friday less humid and drier air will be introduced behind a period of showers from the middle of the morning through the afternoon. It looks like temperatures will be in the 70s and '80s for the end of the heat wave.

If you want to reflect on the connections between achieving climate justice and Black liberation, you can revisit this conversation from SXSW. Happy Juneteenth!
