Currently in Boston — July 17, 2024: A final day of extreme heat for a while
Plus, independent climate journalism needs your support, now more than ever
The weather, currently.
Hot and humid
More 90 plus weather is on the way again Wednesday after a very warm and humid night. Temperatures will reach the mid 90s in the afternoon as building clouds develop a line of showers and storms which will move east during the day. We need rainfall and hopefully most areas receive at least some shower activity. I think the bulk of Greater Boston will see storms between 5 pm and 9 pm Wednesday.
Thursday brings warm and slowly less humid conditions by the end of the day, but will still be muggy over Cape Cod. The weekend is looking quite beautiful with sunshine and lower humidity levels continuing. It will turn warmer and more humid later next week.
What you can do, currently.
A Media Matters analysis found that last year — the hottest calendar year on record — network coverage of climate actually declined in the US. What’s worse, just 12% of reports about climate change mentioned fossil fuels as the driving cause. The media still reported on extreme weather, but stopped short of making the climate connection.
Independent climate journalism like Currently is needed more than ever. And this year, with all of these weather warnings already underway, we’ll unfortunately have plenty of opportunities to do better.
