Currently in Boston — July 4, 2024: A Nice Independance Day

Plus, independent climate journalism needs your support, now more than ever

The weather, currently.

Warm and humid

The forecast for the 4th of July has lots of sunshine blended with clouds. There is a low risk of a shower to the west in the evening, but it should be dry for the festivities in Boston. Look for highs in the 80s. It is a nice day for Friday with more warm air and partial sunshine. There is a low, but not zero risk of a shower. Highs will be in the 80s with moderate levels of humidity. Some showers are more likely Saturday into early Sunday with many dry hours as well. It will be muggy Saturday with highs in the lower to middle 80s. Sunday brings back partial to mostly sunny skies and highs 85-90, a great beach day! The warmer than average conditions are likely to continue for the rest of the month on most days.

What you can do, currently.

A Media Matters analysis found that last year — the hottest calendar year on record — network coverage of climate actually declined in the US. What’s worse, just 12% of reports about climate change mentioned fossil fuels as the driving cause. The media still reported on extreme weather, but stopped short of making the climate connection.

Independent climate journalism like Currently is needed more than ever. And this year, with all of these weather warnings already underway, we’ll unfortunately have plenty of opportunities to do better.
